Let's Talk Trash
Clean Ocean Crew
Happy Friday - Chad here!
First off, I want to say thank you.
The response to Ocean Chronicles lately has been unbelievable. I started writing this newsletter as a way to bring you behind the scenes at Dorsal and share fun, meaningful stories about the ocean we all love. Hearing that it’s resonating with so many of you means more than I can express.
Today we are talking trash! 🗑️ (Well, removing trash)
For years, we’ve heard the same request:
“I want to help remove more plastic - even when I’m not buying a bracelet.”
So we created something to make that happen! Introducing: The Clean Ocean Crew.
Here’s how it works:
For just $5 per month, you become a part of the Clean Ocean Crew. And every month, we remove 1 pound of plastic from the ocean on your behalf.
That’s it. No fluff. Just real, physical trash, taken out of our waterways.
So what does 1 pound of ocean plastic actually look like? (You’d be shocked)
🥤 600 plastic straws
🧴 22 water bottles
🛍️ 700 plastic grocery bags
🪣 A full grocery bag of microplastics, wrappers, and caps
🧃 50 juice pouches
🚬 700 cigarette butts (yep — they’re plastic too)
Now multiply that by thousands of people, doing it every month. That’s the kind of impact we believe in!
There isn’t much you can do with $5 anymore.
☕️ One Starbucks latte - Most grande drinks run $5–6+ these days
📺 A third of a Netflix subscription - Standard Netflix: ~$15.50/month
🍔 One fast food meal - Burger, fries, and a drink? Easily $8–12
📱 One in-app purchase you’ll forget about - Looking at you, Candy Crush gems
But for $5/month, you can do something that actually matters:
Remove one full pound of plastic from the ocean — every single month.
If you have any ideas on how we can make the Clean Ocean Crew even better, just reply to this email! We are working on ways to expand (leaderboards, reports, etc).
